Fragment Universe Guide
Fragment is Anthony Frederick's literary sci-fi thriller about obsidian objects veined with gold — Fragments that contain quantum recordings of possible futures, transmitted through the ARK-7 satellite network. Twenty-one futures are counting down simultaneously, and somewhere in the signal architecture, something called the Signal is listening.
Helena Voss serves as the primary Collector, someone who gathers and safeguards these Fragment artifacts. Her journey transforms her from an isolated individual into a network node, culminating in a merge event at Aetius Group Headquarters where she combines consciousness with eleven other Collectors. Maya Chen, a quantum architect and decoder based in Sector 5 of Cascade City, discovers that the signal was never intended for Aetius Group — they were merely in the way. The signal was targeted at specific coordinates on Earth.
The trilogy examines themes of quantum determinism, the ethics of foreknowledge, and whether knowing the future liberates or entraps us. The Fragments aren't predictions — they're recordings of actualized possibilities, each one a timeline where a specific outcome played out. The question isn't which future will happen, but which futures we choose to remember. The MesoBlack universe spans six interconnected franchises, each exploring different facets of control, identity, and resistance in speculative futures. Readers drawn to any single series will find depth and continuity across the entire collection.
